Sat in once and ordered takeout once.

For takeout we got a chicken pad si-lew -- generally kind of bland and greasy but for the price (cheaper than any other Thai place I've been to in Oxford) not too disappointing.

Went here in person for chicken pad thai and pineapple fried rice. We didn't want the default shrimp in the fried rice and they were happy to substitute in chicken, which we were thankful for. Neither were especially yummy, but we didn't have any complaints. Overall decent and filling. There weren't many people in the restaurant, so the waiters were attentive. Would come here again for a casual, cheap meal.

The food was alright. The service was good but not great. The prices were the only thing that I liked, but that's probably why the food wasn't great.

We had a party of 3 on a Saturday night, arriving about 6 pm. The smallish restaurant was about one-half full. We got the set menu B for 3 people, 16 pounds each. It was a good deal and the food was plentiful and very tasty. No complaints.

The starters included won tons, satay, tempura, fish cakes, and shrimp toast. I can't even remember all the main course: pad thai, chicken curry, a veggie dish, a beef and veggie dish, and rice. We all left very full and very satisfied with the food. That was not the problem.

The problem was the service, which was just appalling. It took us 2 hours to eat dinner because we simply could not get service. It took a good 15-20 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us and bring us water and ask for drinks. Another 15-20 minutes to place our order. Maybe 30 minutes to get appetizers. Another 45 minutes to get the main courses, after we complained about the long wait. It was ridiculous.

Bottom line: food is good, service is not. I am docking the place one star for really bad service.

I will only return here if I have endless time and nothing else to do.

Often overlooked due to it's recurring use for sports club 'crew dates', on the whole this place is reasonably good. The service is fast and the food it good, at least for Oxford Thai food standards. Portions are big and delicious, though the flavoring is off a little bit on some of them (pad thai). Might be a good idea to book in advance on weekends and to ask the staff where any large parties are sitting (so as to avoid them) on week nights as things get rowdy with the rowers, rugby players, etc. Although it can be entertaining if you're in a good mood and don't mind not being able to hear yourself think.

That being said, it almost received a whole extra star due to the delicious Duck Panang dish I had here. Its perfectly cooked duck which isidoused in a delicious spicy sauce, crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside, and topped with red peppers. Honestly the best duck dish I've ever had anywhere. My boyfriend and I once came two weeks in a row just to both get this dish. Amazing.

They have some more authentic dishes which I have yet to try. The ambience includes kind of dim lighting and a bit of a fake 'authentic' feel. However, I like that it's a bit of a trek upstairs (not really) to work up an appetite which can either be one flight or two, depending on the size of your party. Always a fan of these vertical restaurants.

PS: If memory serves (and they still do it), they allow you to take your own wine in.

AT Thai counts as very good Thai in Oxford. Portions are generous, food tasty, prices are pretty good too. It's right on High Street. Enter the narrow doorway and go upstairs. It looks a little rundown in here (while you are climbing the stairs) but it will be reasonable. I like the family-owned and operated, small feel it has. The lunch special is a terrific deal. However, if you are feeling adventurous, you can stray away from your comfort zone and get some other authentic Thai dishes instead. Yen Ta Fo is available. Khao Tom (rice porridge) too. You know it's going to be real when you look around in AT Thai and see your Asian brothers and sisters all chowing down on these Thai homecooking-inspired dishes.
